Mecklenburg Lake District

Vacation in the land of 1000 lakes

With 1,117 natural lakes, the Mecklenburg Lake District is the largest networked water sports area in Europe. In the middle of it lies the Müritz, the largest inland lake in Germany. The best way to explore the lakes is by houseboat or canoe. “Real nature” can be experienced in the Müritz National Park and the four nature parks. The small towns invite you to look, stroll and linger! A good contrast to the beach vacation on the Baltic coast.

Three sub-regions make up the Mecklenburg Lake District:

“Müritz Plus” is the area around the largest inland lake in Germany and the large lakes between Waren, Röbel, Malchow and Plau. The region is characterized by small towns with history, old town and harbor promenade.

The Mecklenburg Lake District is located south – between the Müritz and the gates of Berlin. Characteristic are the many forests and small lakes. The Havel spring lakes, the castle island Mirow, the UNESCO World Natural Heritage “Ancient Beech Forests” near Neustrelitz and the Feldberg lake landscape offer varied vacation days.

Mecklenburg Switzerland in the north of the Lake District owes its name to the graceful hilly landscape with sparkling lakes, natural rivers and streams. Countless manor villages with manor houses and adjoining parks offer space and tranquility to unwind here.
